26

The love of my life had another birthday. Twenty-six years old. Ha! For some odd reason, that sounded really old to me this year. Maybe it's just because we're past the hump of the twenties and he's sliding into THIRTY. How exciting it is that we are growing up and getting more experiences, right, love?

Last year's birthday celebrations included a quick trip down to Banff, a snowy hike while pregnant (I think it was the most jostled I felt the whole 9 months), warming up in the hot springs and getting good food with some dear friends.

However much Matt loved spending his birthday
in the mountains, he felt this year would be better spent surrounded by friends and family doing something that our little family loves to do: swimming. We met the other partygoers at Terwillegar rec centre, ate some pizza and hopped in the pool. Our little one loves being in the water so we are always delighted to spend time there and see his reaction to things. It was one of our first times going swimming with other babies and I have to say Clara, Caleb and their little families made it even more fun! After the pool, I bought an DQ ice cream cake at the rec centre, borrowed and knife to cut it, and paper plates from Second Cup (thank goodness they had some or we would have had to use napkins as plates), lit the candle (yes, I remembered to bring candles and matches, but not plates. Ha) and sang in a new year. The evening was a huge success.

Cake pop
Matt's actual birthday was on Monday but as Mondays are his long days at school, our family birthday celebrations occurred on Sunday. I was tickled with anticipation as Matt opened his present. He has been talking about snowshoes for a long while now and I couldn't wait to see his reaction. I will admit that I have not always gotten him gifts he was thrilled about. What can I say? Men are really hard to buy for but I was pretty confident that this gift would be a winner. And it was!

Oakley wanted to help Dad
He was really good!

Mmm, paper!
We're training him for Christmas

"Whoa!"

See? He's SO excited. :)

My guy is the sweetest man. He has so much love for Oakley and me. He has worked so hard to get his education so he can take care of us always. He has an infectious smile. He is never angry. He can dream and plan like no one I have ever met and makes any of his dreams sound exciting to me, even if it wouldn't have necessarily been my dream before. :) He is so willing to serve people. He is the most loving father I have ever seen. He is so smart, especially spiritually. I married a spiritual giant who teaches me and makes me better. What a lucky girl I am. Happy birthday Matt!

The Abandonment of the blog

Oh dear! My poor, sweet little blog has been left on the back burner for so long, I think it may be having some apprehension about rekindling our relationship. It may just be tossed aside again. Don't worry, blog. I will do my best to better show my appreciation for the ease in which you allow me to keep a record of my life.

Now, I have not blogged in over a month. That is not to say that I had little to tell. We would have one adventure and I'd be planning the blog post but wouldn't get any pictures uploaded on the computer before another thing happened. As this is the case, I think we'll go for a short update with some fun pictures.

October started off with a wonderful visit to Pouce Coupe. Matt has an aunt and uncle who live up there that are very dear to my heart. We went to their beautiful home while we were dating and it was the first time that I had returned since 2008. Matt took Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday off and we set off on the 6+ hour drive. The weekend was spent enjoying walks around the quarter section of land they own, watching General Conference where our beloved prophet and apostles spoke to us, eating loads of food including a marvelous Thanksgiving dinner, playing crib, cuddling babies, watching Oakley and his second cousin experiment with each other, shooting guns, making yogurt and I finished the weekend by making my very own crib board! It is pretty sweet. We were so glad the Uncle Buck and Aunt Karen let us come for a visit. Thank you for a splendid time. :)

The next Sunday, we had the honour to go see my nephew, Liam ordained as a deacon. I am so proud of him! He is such a kind, loving boy and I cannot believe how grown up he is. After, we celebrated Thanksgiving with my family. As always, there was way too much food. I brought out my crib board and we played some crib. Thanksgiving is such a great holiday because it hasn't been commercialized. It is all about being thankful for the blessings our Heavenly Father has given us.

October 20th, our little family headed down to Calgary to go and see the Calgary Alberta Temple on the last day of the open house. It was beautiful. I am excited to go back and enjoy it again. It was nice to take Dave and Ashleigh from this post with us and have a nice visit afterward.

The last major event we had in October was a little Halloween party. We had some friends come over and we oohed and ahed the cute babies, took pictures, and visited. Kayty and Clayton totally win the prize for best costumes. They were the only parents that really dressed up. I know, the rest of us are lame. maybe next year...

All the boys

On the right is the tallest, lightest, oldest. In the middle is the shortest, heaviest, youngest. :)

Other adventures:

  • We got moved into a new ward, the Strathcona Married Student ward. We are really excited about it even though we will only be in it for 7 months. Now these two can be buds at church.

  • We decided to go on a family walk every Sunday.  This was our first one and we bundled up our little babe.

  • One night, Oakley woke me up one night crying. I went to the washroom before getting ready to feed him and as I reached in to grab him, he wasn't where he should have been. He was lower. This is what I found when I turned the light on:

  • My poor baby was stuck in the top left corner. I felt so badly and quickly snatched him up and cuddled him.

  • Oakley fell asleep while eating for the first time. Why is that so cute? I don't know, but it is.

  • Oakley just keeps growing and getting cuter and cuter.

  • Oakley started "kissing" the floor

  • Matt won the Co-op student of the year award! Way to go my love!

Another month gone. How was your October?
